Here at Riley’s Farm our mission is living history.  Our tours are performed from the first person perspective, and that means upon entrance to the claim you will be visitors to the year 1849, at the front line of gold rush activity.  We have brought back to life a few exciting, and colorful characters to help get you started in your search for ‘pay dirt.’ They have a case ‘gold fever’; and in no time at all you will too!

Activities: Check the soil for ‘color’ as you pan for gold and work the sluice box along side ‘Claim Jumper’ Jess.  Get to work tending the corn, peas, pumpkins, tomatoes, and carrots in the garden. Help ‘Mineshaft’ Max get a fair shake at the assayer’s shop with your mathematic abilities. Study maps with Willy Swain as he relives the adventures he encountered on his journey to California. With ‘Lucky’ Joe as your host, get an inside look at a miner’s cabin.

Visit Aunt Benita at the general store to replenish your supplies. Take a hike with ‘Jackrabbit’ Pete in search of wild game. Look for edible nuts, berries, plants, and even roots, but don’t forget to enjoy the crisp mountain air and expansive view.  Make adobe bricks, grind acorns or tie on reed grass to Little Feather's Hogan.

Details:  This tour is conducted by the Crossbow Mining Company at Riley’s Farm.   The price is $12 per person and is approximately 4 hours in length, with a 25 minute break for lunch and 8-10 workshops.   Activities and reenactors may vary, and a period lunch is included.      This tour has a group minimum of 25 guests, but you are welcome to join tours in progress if you call for a reservation date.
