| The Revolutionary War Overnight Adventure on the grounds of Colonial Chesterfield at Riley's Farm combines our popular day time Revolutionary War Field Trip with an evening of living history fun in our recreation of a New England farmstead from the 18th century. Participants stay overnight in period marquis tents with real rope bed bunks. They "stand the watch" in a recreation of sentry duty, study period etiquette and dancing, and enjoy dinner and breakfast the next morning. | ||
|
A typical reservation begins in the evening at 5:00 PM when guests are assigned a bunk in the marquis tents, take part in an orientation meeting and are divided into groups called "townships." Each township elects its own minute company captain prior to a hearty dinner of roast chicken, herb potatoes, green salad, fresh ground wheat bread, cider, and farm-fresh apple pie. After dinner, period musicians play 18th century dance music and a dance mistress puts you through your paces. | |
| In the morning, you will explore some of the farm's vast 760 acres of hiking trails by taking a period scout to the top of a local hill, still on the watch for the "enemy." After skirmishing with the redcoats you will enjoy an all-you-can eat farm breakfast of eggs, sausage, bacon, pancakes, and grilled potatoes. By the time breakfast is over, you will use your one hour of free time to prepare for the day's version of our Revolutionary War Field Trip Adventure |
