Pre-Reserved Tours and
The Weather

Carry On, Lads

Dear Friends of the Farm:

If you have a tour booked with us, there are a few things to remember about Oak Glen's weather and our cancellation policy:

1.   Our weather is very fickle.  We have experienced balmy January weekdays and snow-frosted Junes.     It's always best to over-prepare for cold weather:  thermal underwear, layered clothing, umbrellas, hats, gloves, weather-tight shoes and heavy socks.

2.  We carry on with most tours in even rainy and snowy conditions.   We only cancel a tour if weather might inhibit vehicle access to the farm, or if we believe the weather would present dangerous tour conditions.    If we cancel a tour, we will refund your money or re-schedule your trip, at your discretion.  We will not, however, be responsible for any transportation or other fees you endure as a result of a weather cancellation on our part.   If you are afraid of the weather, don't book this tour!    (We have only cancelled for weather about 7 times in 10 years.)

3.  We reserve the right to make the final weather cancellation call, if necessary, by 6:00 AM on the morning of your tour.    We will make this information available on our voice mail at 909-797-7534.     You should instruct parents, bus drivers, and group leaders to check this number on the morning of your trip, if there is any doubt about the weather.    The picture on the left, above, was taken on a morning when the weatherman was predicting showers the night before.    (That's why we wait until the morning in question to make the weather call.)  If you cancel a tour based on your assessment of our weather here, and we have not confirmed your judgment, you will be liable for the entire price of the field trip.

4.  Most groups tell us a cold weather day is a memorable, fun, and educational experience.   The story of an entire winter at Valley Forge becomes more meaningful if you experience a few hours of "Colonial Weather" here.    Order some hot cocoa from the bakery window, along with a slice of fresh-baked wheat bread!

5.  This policy applies to the Colonial Chesterfield area of the farm only.  (Revolutionary War Field Trips, Colonial Farm Life Adventures, 18th Century Dinner events, Fall Harvest Tours.)    If your tour is located somewhere else on the farm, call your booking location for their weather policy.
